From Ice Cold to Burning Hot: OptoTemp Permit Optical Temperature Measurement

Aug 23, 2016

As of the end of September, the new Temperature Sensor OptoTemp has expanded wenglor’s product portfolio in the field of Photoelectronic Sensors. The high-performance sensor measures temperatures within a range of -25 to 350° C on the basis of infrared radiation emitted by the object, regardless of the material it’s made of and its state of aggregation. And thus wenglor is once again demonstrating innovative market competence in the area of optical sensor technology.

The measurement of infrared radiation is quick and contactless, and the object itself is not influenced in any way. The temperature of a great variety of objects can thus be reliably measured, regardless of the material they’re made from and their state of aggregation. The sensor measures temperature with a spectral sensitivity of 8 to 14 µm within a measuring range of -25 to 350° C. The measured value appears at the integrated, intuitively operable display and is read out via the outputs or the RS-232 port.
Thanks to its two switching outputs and an analog output, the sensor is suited for various measuring applications, for example target versus actual value comparison and absolute measurement. The integrated laser alignment tool and a teachable emission factor make initial start-up quick and easy.
“The OptoTemp Temperature Sensor is a genuine all-around product”, explains product manager Maria Boos. “In particular the two switching outputs, the analog output, the configurable output function and teach-in of the emission factor via the intuitive display provide an ideal basis for a broad range of various temperature measurements.” Applications include conventional target versus actual value monitoring of liquids and raw masses, as well as process control for the prevention of temperature violations at non-metallic surfaces, right on up to the monitoring of engines and system components in the automotive industry. “Downtime can be avoided in this way, scrap can be reduced in production and uniform product quality can be assured throughout the entire value creation chain”, continues Boos.

The Highlights at a Glance
• Contactless temperature measurement within a range of -25 to 350° C
• 2 switching outputs for simple setpoint versus actual value comparison
• Freely scalable analog output for absolute measurement
• Output functions can be configured as desired (PNP / NPN, NO / NC, 4 to 20 mA / 0 to 10 V)
• Emission factor adjustable from 0.1 to 1
• Integrated laser alignment tool
• Easy adjustment via intuitive menu and 7-segment display or wTeach2 (RS-232)

Simply brilliant: wenglor Gets Logistics Rolling

Aug 23, 2016

The Inventors of Sensors for Roller Conveyor Systems Introduce New Reflex Sensors with Background Suppression

wenglor’s new generation of Reflex Sensors for Roller Conveyor Systems is available as of the end of September 2015. This new highlight for transport and warehouse logistics is distinguished in particular by a fast-clip mounting system, quick wiring and a 270° scaled potentiometer. An additional eco mode assures efficient use of resources. With a total of nine brand new Reflex Sensors, the technology leader in the field of optical sensors offers a comprehensive range of models for all logistics and conveyor technology requirements.

Large numbers of sensors are frequently required in warehouse and logistics centers with raceway conveyors. This is costly and time-consuming. In order to optimize the tedious installation procedure, wenglor’s engineers have developed special product features which meet the performance requirements of modern transport and warehouse logistics.
The long list of advantages offered by the new Reflex Sensors with Background Suppression already begins before initial start-up. The innovative fast-clip mounting system permits secure attachment to raceway conveyors by means of press-fit mounting anchors – no more bothersome work with screwdrivers. Afterwards, the sensors can be snapped into the mounting plate with just a single click and mounting is finished. “Initial experience of our lead customers with large quantities has revealed that installation expenses are reduced by as much as 60% as compared with conventional mounting systems”, explains product manager Christoph Lang.
Connection of the M12 plug is fast and efficient too thanks to the quick wiring feature – just half a revolution is all that’s required. “And the cables are fully compatible with all standard cables”, continues Lang. With the help of the 270° scaled potentiometer, switching distances can be detected and infinitely adjusted at a single glance with less than a full revolution - even when the sensor is not in operation.
With current consumption of less than 16 mA, wenglor’s Reflex Sensors are amongst the absolute frontrunners where energy savings are concerned. Thanks to the integrated eco mode, power consumption is reduced by up to 75% for the solenoid valves and additional energy savings are achieved in the switched state. “The biggest advantages result from quick and easy installation and mounting, but the performance of the Reflex Sensors is inspiring as well: small packages with widths of down to 150 mm can be reliably detected on raceway conveyors with widths of up to 900 mm”, explains Lang. “Even dark and black objects can be reliably detected thanks to precision background suppression.”

The Features at a Glance
• Fast-clip mounting system
• Quick wiring
• 270° scaled switching distance adjuster
• Current consumption reduced by 75% in the switched state without valve thanks to
  the eco mode
• Detection of small packages with widths as of 150 mm with conveyor widths of up
  to 900 mm
• Can be used within a temperature range of −40° C to 60° C
• Detection of dark objects thanks to precision background suppression
• Additional I/O plug for diagnostics as a standard feature
• Highly insensitive to extraneous light of up to 90,000 lux
• Small switching hysteresis: < 5%

The smallest anywhere, but nevertheless with extremely high performance:

the new WinTec P1KY001 Transit Time Sensor.

Where checking for presence and position monitoring in tight spaces are concerned, the world’s smallest Transit Time Sensor, namely the WinTec P1KY001, is distinguished by its minimal housing size (22 x 32 x 12 mm) and an enormous working range of 1000 mm. Equipped with wenglor’s legendary interference-free technology (WinTec) which permits interference-free detection of black or glossy objects even at extremely inclined angles, wenglor is once again laying claim to technology leadership in the field of Photoelectronic Sensors with this new product.

Despite its extremely small size, the new P1KY001 Transit Time Sensor includes numerous capabilities which permit use in complex automation applications. For example, the high-performance triple-dot laser diode (laser class 1) even detects black and glossy objects with unsurpassed precision at a switching frequency of 1000 Hz. Predestined for temperatures ranging from -40 to +50° C, the P1KY001 is even in demand in extremely adverse environments, for example in cold storage facilities.
Its large 1000 mm working range, two switching outputs (antivalent) and the 270° potentiometer assure extraordinary performance on the one hand, as well as user-friendly, intuitive operation on the other hand. Furthermore, the two LED displays which are visible over nearly all axes provide information regarding supply power, switching status and error diagnostics. And thus, for example, blinking signals inform the user that the sensor may be contaminated, has been incorrectly mounted or has not been properly adjusted to the object.
“The P1KY001 can be used in all applications where quick and accurate object detection is required in extremely tight spaces”, explains wenglor product manager Christoph Lang. The wenglor innovation has already been successfully integrated and tested in shuttle systems in automated small parts warehouses, at manual workstations in the automotive industry and in industrial saws in the woodworking industry, to mention just a few relevant industry applications. In particular WinTec technology, established in 2010, is keeping the new Transit Time Sensor ahead of the competition. “Thanks to WinTec technology, the new P1KY001 is extremely well suited for objects with black or glossy surfaces which have to be reliably detected in highly inclined positions. Combined with the extremely small housing, the sensor is unique throughout the world.”

The Features at a Glance
• Miniature format: 22 x 32 x 12 mm
• Working range: 0 to 1000 mm
• 2 switching outputs (antivalent)
• Switching frequency: 1000 Hz
• Triple-dot laser (laser class 1) for high edge definition
  and accurate object detection
